Some of the most famous epic movie, based on either the Bible or ancient history, have the music of Miklos Rozsa a the soundtrack. This album, with the Utah Symphony Orchestra or Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Elmer Bernstein and Raner Pauberg respectively, contains some of the most sweeping orchestrations from the Golden Age of the silver screen.
Some of the most moving pieces come from the “ Palace Music” from El Cid, with the longest entry the 16 minute “Fantasy” from Young Bess, along with the shorter “Danish Dance”. During the 40s and 50s, Biblical Era epics were the vogue, and there is a wondrous suite of themes from King of Kings, Ben Hur and Sodom and Gomorrah along with “Caesar’s Procession from Julius Caesar.
