Long-time associates Jean-Michel Pilc/p, Francois Moutin/b and Ari Hoenig/dr reunite for the first time in over 10 years to record an album of mostly covers, all done with original flair. Moutin and Hoenig sound like they’ve got something to prove, fluid as all get out on a rich take of “Impressions”, and going herky-jerky on a fun read of “Bemsha Swing”. Moutin gets some front and center on “Alice In Wonderland/My Romance” and leads into an elliptical “Straight, No Chaser”. Pilc shows soft hands on the title tune, and gives a rich impression’d feel for “Thin Air” while forming sharp angles on the bopping read of “After You’ve Gone”. An elegant “Dear Old Stockholm” has a baroque feel, and Hoenig rustles in the underbrush on the playful “Searing Congress”. Three way conversations.
