Melvin Johnson: Little Red Wagon

Pianist/keyboardist Melvin Johnson creates a collective of artist that mix and match ideas and environments. The music itself is introduced as a spoken and heartfelt dedication to his father, while close to the end he gives a talk to and about his mom and well. I want to get to know this guy!
The size of bands range from a melodic and cozy solo of “Little Red Wagon”, going to a duet with vocalist Gavin Johnson for “Goodnight Gavin” or a serene “Extension” with bassist Dave Connor”. Fuller bands include warm waltzing violin by Jose Francisco Perez Colon on “Black Curtain” and a hip tenor sax from James Murphy on “Little Red Wagon (Reprise)”. Some funky keyboards add soul to the programmed “Beyond The Glass” and get down’d “Black Bacon Funk”. A walk down a hall way of beloved family portraits.
