Bassist Massimo Biolcati takes time away as a sideman for guitarist Lionel Loueke to create his own trio with drummer Johnathan Blake and tenor saxist/bass clarinetist John Ellis for a spacious collection of tones. The moods are dreamy, with Ellis’ tenor in a nimbus cloud for “On A Misty Night” and the bass clarinet creating a Hound of Baskervilles fog on “Strange Meeting”. Massimo gently bops with Blake on ”The End Of A Love Affair” and gets introspective during “For All We Know” , slinking into the sunset for “Blue Daniel”. Most upbeat is “East Of The Sun” which has a whimsical bounce, but for the most part the ears are balmed by the cooing trio conversations.
