Vocalist Aymee Nuviola teams with pianist Keumuel Roig and guests Hilario Bell/dr, Jose Aguilera/perc, Lowell Ringel/b, Julian Avila/g and a handful of backing vocalists for an Old World collection of passionate arias. Nuviola rolls her “rrr”s like a Cuban cigar on the intimate “Vete de Me” while goes declaratory in passion with Ringel on” Me Contario De Te” She slinks like a silk scarf on “Realidad Y Ftanasia” and goes dark with Roig’s chords for “Rsa Mustia” A folksy Me Faltabas Tu” includes rich strums by Avila” while sauntering through a rich “Perfidia”. A room filled with cigar smoke and dim lights.
Nadia Washington brings modern R&B sounds with vintage soul on this well produced release. There are mixes of genres, such as hip hop and West Africa on “Broken” while she goes from funk to rock on “Machine”. Some 70s moog swirls around on the ballad “Fire” while her most pretty moments are with a heavenly harp on “Pagliacci’s Lament”. A modern collection of singles, looking for unity.
Hailey Brinnel sings and coos while playing a mean trombone with a team of Silas Irvine/p, Dan Monaghan/dr, Joe Plowman/b and a horn section guest list of Terell Stafford/tp, Andrew Carson/tp and Chris Oatts/ss-as. She shows her brass c hops on the upbeat “ There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow” while cooing like Julie London with Plowman on the intimate “Candy”. She shows vocal nimbleness on the bopping original “The Sound” and gets languid with Irvine on “A Cottage For Sale”. The team boogies on the shuffling “I Might Be Evil” and swings hard with Stafford in the front on ”Tea For Two”. Strong lips and vocal chords.
