I don’t know if this is the last session the late great Joey DeFrancesco did, but if it is, he went out swinging when he sat in on vocalist Joey Locascio’s hip ep. Joey D plays the trumpet and organ, and is joined by Paul Bollenback/g, Greg Artry/dr, Carlos Garcia/perc, Victor Garcia/tp, Andy Baker/tb-arr, Eric Schnider/ts-as, Rich Copolongo/cl-ts-as, Ben Swartz-ts-as, Jim Gailloreto/ts and Jacob Slocum.
Locascio has a big and bold Rat Packish voice while Joey D supplies the ripples and the horns riff along a shuffling and fun “Joey’s A Tramp”. Both Joeys pull out all of the plugs along with some film noir m uted horn on a bel canto read of “I Who Have Nothing”. Corpolongo produces a sweet clarinet intro to a fun and peppy “Mack The Knife”, and everyone is relaxed and reclined Locascio sways to “You Don’t Know Me”. Naugahyde booth lounge lizards.
