Transcending styles and genre, Mack Rebennack (aka “D. John”), is captured here in a collection of appearances at the Montreux Jazz Festival from 1986-2011, and you won’t be able to tell any sense of progression or regression; you get a New Orleans gumbo and stride that is timeless. Yes, there is a 2004 version of his one big hit “Right Place, Wrong Time”, but it is as much a part of Crescent City as the “Professor Longhari Boogie” and “Let The Good Times Roll” with Rebennack’s fingers jumping the jive. Dr. John was also a crooner of sourts, nd he produces a riveting “Love For Sale” as well as a fun “Accentuate The Positive” while he weaves traditional stories on on “Stack-A-Lee”. Bon Ton Roulet
