Rob Silverman: Drumology Volume III

If for no other reason, I want to see drummer Rob Silverman over the hope that one or some of the guests on his albums will show up with him. This latest includes guests Steve Gadd, Dave WEckl, Roy Wooten, Gaven Harrison among others, as well as Jay Oliver-Michael Silverman/key, Larry Kornfeld/b, Frank Gambale/g, Bela Fleck/banj, Eric Marienthal/sax, John Patitucci-Victor Wooten and Paul Mokenbur/voc-g. WHEW!

The songs theme selves include a thunderous “The Alchemist” which sounds like something from Chick Corea’s ELectrik band, while “Jaco’s Dream” is a soulful Stevie Wonderish fusion of moods. Victor Wooten reunites with Bela Fleck and brother Roy WOoton on the Nashville sounding “Fibonacci Pie” , while bagpipes fuse up “Falcon Nine”. Something from a Boston album comes up on “Talk of the Town” and world music closes th ings up on the dramatic “Sailing”. If they come to town, bring earplugs. Yowza!
