Classical-sounding pianist Yaron Gershovsky mixes and matches his team of Boris Kozlov-Will Lee/b, Cliff Almond-Clint de Ganon-Ross Pederson/b, Alex Sipiagin/tp, David Mann/fl and Qubrey Johnson/voc for a mix of standards and originals. His own style veers between vintage Bill Evans and Gene Harris, bopping well in a trio setting on “Northern Lights”, dramatic on “Secret Love” and gorgeous around Kozlov’s solo on “A Song For Mia”. On keyboards, Gershovsky gets funky on the fun “Awakening” and soulful with Mann’s flute on “Transitions”. A quartet with a cooing Johnson produces a dreamy take of the Brazilian classic “So Danco Samba” with Simon and Garfunkel’s “Scarborough Faire” a dramatic presentation. Gershovisky displays his digital dexterity on a richly crafted and delivered solo excursion folk tale, “The Lonely Tree”. 88 ivories of joy.
