Leader Jean-Jacques Rojer plays guitar and percussion with his team of Warren Wolf/vib, John Benitez/b, Jeff “Tain” Watts/dr and Pernell Saturnino/perc for a mix of soft, kinetic and world jazz. Rojer shows nimble guitar work that gives hints of East Africa on the tropical “Zumbi” and lilting title tune. Brazilian vibes by Wolf with ecstatic tambourine make for a rich groove on “Ruas”, with some hints of Wes Montgomery and George Shearing taking place on the classy soft romance of “Roce”. Watts and Benitez give a post bop accent to the kinetic “Salina” and a rock beat to the hard hitting “Guiambo”, with Rojer’s clean lines working through the crowd with aplomb. Polished and shiny strings.
