Alabama Slim: The  Parlor

With the recent passing of Lucky Peterson, Alabama Slim dutifully takes the seat as the man who embodies the roots of the blues and carries its torch. This album has him playing guitar and rasping out earthy material with Little Freddie King/g, Ardie Dean/dr, Jimbo Mathus/p-org and Matt Patton/b. He talks through the boogie of “Hot Foot” and slithers around “Freddie’s Voodoo Boogie” . A ‘Baby Please Don’t Go’ groove permeates “Rock Me Mama” and trips to Chicago abound on the dark “All Night Long” and riff-filled “Rock Me Baby”, with splashes of muddy water abounding on “Rob Me With A Gun” and a dark take of the tap root Allman Brother’s famed “Someday Baby”. Put him on a Greyhound to LA! I’ll get him room and board.
