Kenny Wayne plays piano and organ, and then sings like he was weaned on the waters of Fats Domino, teaming up with BB King alumnus Russell Jackson on bass, guitarist Yuji Ihara, drummer Joey “The Pocket” DiMarco and guest Sherman “Tank” Doucette on harp and Barry Sharbo on the gospel tambourine. He shows the skills that got him into the Piano Hall of Fame as he does a Crescent City boogie on “You Did A Number On Me”, struts on “Sittin’ In My ROckin’ Chair” and turns the keys an extra shade of blue on “a souful “You’re In For A Big Surprise”. Some horns create a joyful Louis Jordan jive mood for “T & P Train 400” and “Bumpin’ Down The Highway” with a 50s R&B feel swinging on “Let The Rock Roll”. Dare you to sit still
Pianist and occasional vocalist Anthony Geraci goes indigo with vocalist/harpist Dennis Brennan, guitarists Monster Mike Welch, Walter Trout and Tory Gonyea, drummer Jeff Armstrong, bassist Michael Mudcat Ward, guest guitarist Peter Ward and a horn section of trumpeter Scott Arruda and saxist Mark Early. Geraci mixes originals up well, and does a mean take of Billy Eckstine’s “Jelly, Jelly” that slinks to the organ grinder. With the horns, his husky voice blends in well on the shuffling “ Love Changes Everything” and the R&B’d “Tomorrow May Never Come”. A Chicago’d blues “No One Hears My Prayers” is reminiscent of Steely Dan’s “Don’t Take Me Alive” while his harp wails from the South Side on “Dead Man’s Shoes”. A dash of Memphis and a side trip to the Windy City.
