The brass is bright with a co-led team of Dave Morgan/bs-fl and Rob Susman/tb directing an 11 man horn team and snappy rhythm collection of Noel Cohen/g, Dan Asher/b, Rex Benincasa/prec and Peter Grant/dr through some snappy originals and covers. A real hoot is the bold and beautiful punch of the old Cream song “I Feel Free” that you won’t get out of your head. Likewise, Allen Toussaint’s “Everything I Do Is Funky” has a Tower of Power punch to it. And who would of thought that George Harrison’s navel gazing “Blue Jay Way” could be a swaggering groover, with some funky trumpet by Chris Anderson and Susman sliding like Ricky Henderson. A salsa’s “Summertime” sizzles while the Crescent City’d title track is a foot stomping delight. These guys are about as subtle as a whoopie cushion, and just as fun. Grab a seat!
