The XY chromosome DIVA Jazz Orchestra brings in diversity by adding guests Ken Peplowski/cl, Claudio Roditi/tp, Jay Ashby/tb and Marty Ashby/g as guests to this swinging set of swing, bop and Brazilia. The sections are rich in tone and pump out support for Peplowski and Janelle Reichman on the clarinets for a fun “Slipped Disc” while the reeds get breezy for Peps on the misty “Estate.” Roxy Coss plays a mean tenor along with Claudio Roditi’s horn on the warm samba “Felicidade” with DIVA ladies Alexa Tarantino/ss and Jennifer Krupa/tb swagger to the shuffling “Piccolo Blues.” A closing “Bucket O’ Blues” gives a chance for all of the lady saxists to flex their muscles, and it’s a definitely Venice Beach of a exhibition.
