Vocalist Sam Tru comes across like an Old School singer/songwriter from the 70s on this album where she teams with Gregory Uhlmann/g, Justin Nielsen/p-org, Clark Sommers/b and Matt Caroll/dr. She’s got a storyteller of a voice, with most of the lyrics dealing with loneliness or failed relationships. The team is poppy to the choppy guitars of the title tune, while in a funky mood alongside Nielsen’s organ during “Just Fine”. An easy R&Ber of “Paradise” has her in a soulful mood, as she gets thoughtful on a regretful themed “Not Enough Liquor”. Sort of a Janis Ian type with a dash more muscle.
