Vocalist Kayle’ Brecher gives personal and artsy renditions of songs from her own pen and with some clever arrangements of covers. She takes “My Favorite Things” and in a trio setting, opens it with quotes from the bop classic “Stolen Moments” before waxing poetic. Frank Butrey’s acoustic guitar gives flamenco sketches for an operatic and dramatic “She” and a glorious “Gentle Rain”. Ratzo Harris gives a Mingusy bass in support of Brecher’s flexible voicings on Jimmy Webb’s “Shattered” with Brecher going it all alone on a riveting closer of “I Remember It Well”.
