With hair and attitude like a mix of Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline, neo-country gal Tami Neilson snarls, hoots and wails to Delaney Davidson’s guitar on this cockroach stomping collection of originals. All lof the tunes are originals, but the sound is like a Saturday Night at the old Palomino, where a good night was finding all of the hubcaps still on your car when you went to the parking lot.
Neilson growls in your face on “Call Your Mama” and the two stepping honky tonker “Hey, Bus Driver” with Davidson delivering some 50s guitar a la Duane Eddy and Link Wrayon “You Were Mine” and the big beat of “Ten Tonne Truck.” Hints of Sun Records earthiness mix with a Latin lilt on “Any Fool With A Heart” and a tribute to the gospel group The Staples Singers has Neilson getting gritty on “Sister Mavis” with the album closing out on a Santos and Johnny-like guitar lullaby of “Sleep.” Get this band on the West Coast. Shazam! Due out in early Feb, so keep an eye open for it.
