Bassist Leo Sherman puts together a strong post-bop team of Paul Jones/ts, Alex Goodman/g, Ben Winkelman/p and Dan Pugach/dr on this collection of confident originals. He sets the tone on each piece, creating a table dance for the festive title track, and leading the charge for upbeat pieces like a trio “Holdover” a hard hitting tenor toned “Chagall” and a dynamic changing “The Eclipse” that has the team changing volume and directions with the flick of a wrist. In a trio setting with Winkelman and Pugach, Sherman’s guidance and communication is impressive, stately with the pianist on “Nocturne.” Impressive workmanship.
