Kristin Chenoweth’s 7th album is a mix of pop tunes produced by the adroit touch of Steve Tyrell. A handful of the arrangements are by the hand of the tasty Alan Broadbent, with Chenoweth’s throaty tone in a wonderful milieu with Bob Mann’s guitar on the dreamy “When I Fall In Love” and a wanderlust “The Man That Got Away” His orchestrated “Desperado” includes Michael Orland’s piano laying out a red carpet for Chenoweth, while Ricky Woodard’s tenor adds oomph to “I Wanna Be Around.” Wedding synth sounds and backing vocals create a rich “You Don’t Own Me” and she slinks on the cabaret “What A Diff’rence A Day Makes.” Polished like the chrome of a ’49 Buick.
Folksy toned Tish Oney teams up with some of LA’s finest for a collection of easy sauntering material. Guitarist John Chiodini is in rich form with Wrecking Crew alumnus Chuck Berghofer/b and Ray Brinker/dr for this unpretentious set. Her warm voice wraps around Chiodini’s strings on “Most Of All-I Love You” and is relaxed as she leans back on “Sweet Angel.” Brinker and Berghofer give a nice cadence to “Sweet Angel” and bring a hip kinetic bounce for Oney to prance over on “Conundrum” while everyone sounds pretty in pastels for “Dust Off Your Dreams.” Girl next door charm.
