Singer and songwriter Mark Oblinger comes across like a mix of Jackson Brown and JD Souther on this folksy collection of originals. His voice sounds like it could have fit in on the 70s Sunset Blvd scene of The Eagles and Byrds teaming with a core of Christian Teele/dr, Greg Garrison-Chris Engleman, Eric Moon-John McVey/key, Nick Forster/g and selected guests.
Hints of a male Carly Simon pop up on pieces like the soulful “Let It Roll,” the mandolined “No Regrets” and the travelogue of “Julia.” A trip to the Nashville skyline takes place on “Living Invitation” and “Poet In The Corner” as well as on the rural “Little Bird.” A horn section makes things funky for “Pressure Makes Diamonds” with Oblinger getting his most personal on an intimate “Love” with a late night piano. A trip to the Troubadour!
