Haerim Elizabeth Lee: My Time Is Now

Rich sonatas are delivered by violinist Haerim Elizabeth Lee as she teams with pianist Alex Brown on a collection of Gershwin interpretations and a few extras. The Gershwin pieces are arranged by Jascha Heifetz for the most part and reflect the “Golden Age” of the era well, in a stately post-ragtime, pre-swing mode.

Lee’s tone is rich and palpable, elegant on the urgent, dark and dramatic respectively on the “Three Preludes” and fun for the buoyant “American In Paris.” Brown is full fisted for a dramatic “My Man’s Gone Now” as he broods under Lee’s bow, thoughtful on his dreamy arrangement of “Violin Piece” and uptown for “Sleepless Night.” The two are in a cozy parlor for “Graceful Ghost” and Lee creates choppy whitecaps on “Viva For Solo Violin.” Timeless treats.
