Zac Harmon: Mississippi BarBQ

Guitarist and vocalist Zac Harmon sums up his musical attitude on this album with liner notes that declare “music is medicine; God is love.” That feeling oozes out of every song on this bluesy gospel gem that has Ramon with his own team of Corey Carmichael/key, Chris Gipson/b, Ralph Forrest/dr, Texas Slim/g and the snappy support of the STAXY band The Rays for the lion’s share of the cuts.

Harmon’s deep tenor voice rollicks with the smoky organ on the 70s rocker “Gypsy Road” with the horns helping him stomp out a gritty “Desperate Love.” Memphis horns abound on “So Cold” and the rhythm section shuffles into oblivion for Harmons ax on “Honey Pleez.” Deep Sunday morning grooves abound as the team boogaloos through the message of “Lord Save Me From LA” and Harmon gets sanctified with a riveting take of “Knocking On Heaven’s Door” to close out the album. This guy’s got soul in his soul.
