Larry Wolf: Mood Swings

Best known as a character actor, Larry Wolf plays various roles as a vocalist on this wide ranging Old School album teaming with a collection of Adrianne Duncan/p-voc, Jason Luckett/g-harp, John Tegmeyer/cl, Edwin Livingston/b, Dan Schnelle/dr and guest vocalists Nancy Wolf or Adam Wolf. He does some cozy duets in the process; a lovely teaming with Luckett’s guitar on “Embraceable You,” A C&W hoot on “Good Night Irene” and a folksy “Lucky Old Sun.” Tegmeyer’s woody clarinet works well on a Dana Andrews-ish “Laura” with Duncan’s piano genteel for “I Won’t Cry Anymore.” The combo is Depression Era moody for “What’s New” with Wolf as raspy as vintage Louis Prima during “Make Me A Pallet On Your Floor.” Nancy is cozy joining in on “You Are My Sunshine, “ with the family plan continuing with son Adam bringing his baritone voice into “Motherless Child” after a George M Cohen-inspired intro. Timeless deliveries.
