Marcos Silva: Brasil From Head to Toe

Various sounds from Brasil are evoked by Marcos Silva, as he plays piano, synthesizer, guitar and percussion along with a versatile team of Scott Thompson/b, Mauricio Zotarelli/dr-perc, Gary Meek/woodwinds and a rotating team of guests. The music veers between Weather Report-flavored fusion to sweet soul and lush Brasilia.

Meek’s flute is peppy on the upbeat “Dos Pes A Cabeca” with his soprano searing through some assertive fusion on “In 7 & 7” a lush “It’s Gone” and the hip “Hathor” that feature Silva on keyboards.  Silva keeps it soulful with Thompson’s hip bass line for a sweet  “Pra Zuca” and the team is funky on  “Dry Land.” Gregoire Maret’s harmonica is warm and bluesy for “New Life” and some strings sway like silk drapes on the lush “Spring,” with Silva’s piano in a warm parlor mood. Fresh flavors.
