Trumpeter Jacques Kuba Seguin displays a warm and glowing horn as he fronts a post-bop sextet with famed pianist Jean-Michel Pilc and Yannick Rieu/ts, Olivier Salazar/vib, Adrian Vedady/b and Kevin Warren/dr through a collection of originals. His rich tone is in passionate display out front on the gracious “Premiere Neige (You’re Not Alone)” and he blends in well with fellow frontliner Rieu to create a rich and palpable texture on the reflective “Hymne” and the sublime blueish MJQ-influenced “L’Ecrivain.” Salazar’s vibes create nice kinetic work with the rhythm section on the hobering “Origine” and the crystalline “Moasiques” and Warren carroms excitedly on “I Remember Marie In April.” Suave, sleek and swinging.
