Snarky Puppy: Immigrance

Through the years, Snarky Puppy has evolved into not so much a band as a way of musical life. This musical family, with a core team of Michael League/g, Bob Lanzetti/g, Jamison Ross/dr, Jamison Ross/dr, Chris McQueen/g, Bill Laurance/key and an extended collection of musical cousins, inlaws and outlaws mixes percussion, horns keyboards and anything not nailed down.
The songs are like a journey through a myriad of neighborhoods, with side streets with fragrances and sounds to veer around the corners to see. Some of the songs, lie “Chonks” mix a Headhunter wacka- wooka guitar with space funk, while the horns snap to the crisp disco ball Average White Band pulse on Bad Kids To The Back” with a slow soul stew brewing on the strutting “While We’re Young.” Leagues bass line is palpable as the horns and keys meld with lush synth sounds for “Coven” leaving room for McQueen’s clever guitar solo, with Justin Stanton and Shaun Martin take some keyboards concepts deep on a Middle Eastern rocker “Bigly Strictness.” A mix of funky Weather Report fuses warmly  as the team digs a deep rivulet n “Bling Bling” with the album closing on a mystical “Even Us” replete with oud and Bill Jennings’ warm flugelhorn. This band is like a musical version of National Geographic, taking you to various worlds in a single edition.
