Bassist Dave Young leads an upbeat team of Renee Rosnes-Bernie Senensky/p, Terry Clarke/dr, Reg Schwager/g, Kevin Turcotte/tp and Perry White/ts through a swinging collection of standards. His marrow is filled with bebop corpuscles, evident from the touch on Charlie Parker’s “Red Cross” and Dexter Gordon’s “Fried Bananas,” both featuring Schwager’s nimble six strings. The team digs deep on “Bolivia” with Senensky flexing his muscles on the ivories, while Rosnes goes romantic and sensuous during a drop dead gorgeous take of “Lotus Blossom.” The horns get loose and frisky on a tug of war take of “Softly As In A Morning Sunrise” while the mood is glowing on “I Thought About You.” A toe tapper with class.
