Aguanko’: Pattern Recognition

Composer and congo player Alberto Nacif leads a sizzling salsa band of Jose Espinosa/timb-perc, Patrick  Prouty/b, Rick Roe/p, Russell Miller/sax-fl, Anthony Stanco/tp-fh and Christopher Smith/tb through ten sparkling originals. The bass pulses through the peppy brass on pieces like “Senor Smoke” while Smith sears through the traffic during the title track and bouncing “Late Night Religioun. The rhythm saunters under Miller’s flute during a sweet “Corazon Suave” and the sensuous “Los Ninos,” but the attraction the entire album is the irresistible grooves provided by the percussion team. If my ’67 Bel Air could cruise like this, I’d be in heaven!
