Sir Paul McCartney still shows his creative juices on this latest album, a kind of musical travelogue. He’s in strong voice and it’s interesting that his title is about a journey, as some of these songs have a feel like I’ve been here before.
The upbeat “Get Started” has a WIngsy “Just Another Day” tone, and the acoustic “Happy With You” feels like a cousin to “For No One” from Revolver. A dash of Magical Mystery Moods is rocked up on “Come On To Me” , “Hand in Hand” comes across like an earlier story and “I Don’t Know” is a Tin Pan Alley gem in the line of “Carry That Weight,” with “People Want Peace” whispering moods from RAM.
There are also moments, though, with Paul sounding modern and progressive, with a hip synth pulse on ”Back in Brazil”, and a highlight being the tight techno “Who Cares.” Like all great artists, McCartney has a signature sound, and this one is a good engraving with a few extra strokes.
