Classical or jazz? Jazz or classical? Composer or artist?
Composer Robert Gibson presents a collection of “Poems,” “Soundings” and collections of “Night Music” with strings and piano. “Twelve Poems” delivered by James Stern/v and Audrey/p that range from eerie “Wind Chime” to pizzicato’d “2:3” and moody “Cloudburst.” A five part “Soundings” with a string quartet mixes brooding “Diaphanous” with jagged “Luminous” thoughts. James Stern and Erik Kutz take turns on solo cello and violin respectively on thoughtful reads of “Night Music” and the title track by the Aeolus Quartet produces Millennial musings and harmonies. Cerebrations galore.
Jane Antonia Cornish uses her pen for five compositions with a team of pianist Vicky Chow and a string quartet of Anna Elashvili/v, Arthur Moeller/v, Margaret Dyer Harris/vi and Hamilton Berry/cel. Chow sits out for a shadowy “Beyond the Sky” with rich string harmonies, while her reflective piano is at the forefront of two reads of the solemn “Constellations.” Dreamy tones of “Lux” and eerie sepia colors brood on “Wave Cycles” making for contemplative musings.
