Jan Hammer: Seasons Part 1

Keyboard legend Jan Hammer plays everything heard on this wide ranging album that successfully captures every color of his rich career on this latest album. The man who’s heard on albums from Mahavishnu to Beck keeps it lyrical and concise here, with some hip and deep rivulets of rhythms as on the bluesy  pulse of “68 Reasons” while melding guitar tones and Caribbean percussion on “Ocean Drive.” Hip and dramatic mellotron teams with piano on a s pacious “Suite European” and classical serenity shines during “Causeway Bridge.” Thick rock textures thunder away on “Cyclone” and some kinetic percussion bounces around like a pinball machine on the fuzz toned “April.” Dreamy moments similar to vintage ELP are created on “Sanctuary” and dramatic climaxes create rhapsodic moments during “Suite Latin.” Strong and bold brush strokes cover the rich canvas on this rich release by one of the giants of fusion.
