Alto saxist Amanda Gardier presents post-bop moods with a core team of Charlie Ballantine/g, Clay Wulbrecht/p, Jesse Wittman/b, Chris Parker/dr and guests Rob Dixon/ts with Mina Keohane/voc. Gardier’s tone is rich, breathy and filled with feeling, lyrical on dreamy pieces such as “Thin Line” and sighing on the ambient “Smoke” alongside Wulbrecht’s abstractions. She shows she can assert herself, bearing down over Parker’s drum pattern on “Leap of Faith” while getting soulful with Ballantine’s guitar on the sexy salsa “Fjord.” She melds well like thick sorghum with Dixon’s tenor as they create an impressionistic “Giants” and go elliptical with fluffy tones to some hard hitting drum accents on “Revolving Door.” Modern and millennial music.
