Vocalist Aime’e Allen creates rich moods and interpretations with the Spartan team of Francois Moutin/b, Billy Test/p and Kush Abadey/dr, using her voice in a wide variety of ways. She can get husky on a p ost bap take of “Skylark” while drifting like a mist on a dreamy take of Jobim’s “Fotografia.” Test provides a soft landing for an intimate original “In My Web” while the two get as spacious as a clear winter evening on “Midnight Sun.” Things get a bit frisky and free for “Democracy How (Harmony and Dissonance” with some poetry while she gets flexibly blue with Moutin on her own “Shooting Star.” Artsy and craftsy.
