Here’s a folksy/trad album with a bit of a modern edge, featuring vocalist Hadley McCall Thackston and a team including Elijah Abrms/b-g, Gregor Beresford/dr, Hugh Chrisyopher Brown/p-b, Burke Carroll/psg, Teilhard Frost-perc-sax and a guest list of strings, voice and woodwinds. Her honey-dewed voice works well on the homey “Butterfly” and the polka’d “Change” with a Nashville two stepper “Somehow” and stomping “Ellipsis” mixing bluegrass moods with contemporary messages. Her voice gets Norah Jones earthy during the ominous “Devil or Angel” and the edgy with electrics “Last Mountain Waltz,” as bluegrass melds with blue horizons. Intriguing sepia tones.
