The end of a long love affair is documented as vocalist Cyrille Aime’e parts was with her long time band of Adrien Moignard/ag, Michael Maleanu/eg, Dylan Shamat/b and Dani Danor/dr on this final concert, fortunately documented for posterity. The winning mix of cheery vocals, irresistible swing and bohemian atmosphere’s has been the hallmark of Ms. Aime’e up to this point, and all we can do is wonder by the musical evidence here where her next direction will be.
Aime’e is a swinger to the marrow, and she is in two step heaven on hotcha pieces like the upbeat “Three Little Words” and gypsy laden and self-penned “Good Day.” Likewise, she has a cozy and coy side to her palate, gentle withy Shamat on “Nuit Blanche” and sitting by the fireside on “Day By Day.” Her playfulness oozes as she delves into vocal percussion on Michael Jackson’s “Wanna Be Strtin’ Something” and does some rich harmonizing on a clever take of a Monk tune on “It’s Over Now.” Last is the ingenue bohemian, gracious and pastoral on Sidney Bechet’s “I Tu Vois Ma Mere” and pastel blue on “Live Alone and Like It,” so it makes you wonder which color of the rainbow Ms. Aime’e will choose on her next path. By the testament here, it will be worth for us to tag along.
