Alain Mallet plays piano, keyboards and electronics as he mixes and matches moods with a rotating team including Peter Slavov/b, Jamey Haddad/perc, Abraham Rounds/d, Jacob Matheus-Leandro Pellerino/g and a large group of cameo guests. The team gets modal with Daniel Rotem’s tenor sax and hard hitting drum grooves during “Salif” while celebrative moods with flutes and upbeat guitars give a Pat Metheny upbeat groove on “Till I Dance” and “This Is When I Think About You” Some popish vocals and bowed bass palpate well on “Adama” with French lyrics getting earthy with percussive rumbles on “Road Signs.” Mallet never dominates, he directs traffic like the best of cops, allowing the drivers the freedom to cruise the sonic boulevards. Wide ranging and well performed.
