Tenor saxist Troy Roberts brings together a muscular team of Tim Jago/g, Silvano Monasterios/key, Eric England/b and Dave Chiverton/dr for some funky soul originals. Roberts’ tone is strong and confident, and surfs the waves created by England’s bass like a longboarder on the hip “Slideshow” while he veers through Monasterios’ CTI-inspired keyboards on warm “Belle.” The rhythm team shows it can get quirky and kinetic as they stretch and pull on “Fame & Four Tune” and do some manic driving behind the wheel on the high octane “Through The Eyes of Psychoville.” The team shows some synth sounds as Roberts leads through a Headhunters-inflected “Phis HQ” while the leader gets Teddy Pendergrass seductive as his horn croons on “Adamant Eve.” Rich and thick.
