This inviting and ambitious album has Dayramir Gonzalez singing and playing keyboards with a wonderful rotating team of rhythm, strings and horns. His compositions range from celebratory Caribbean to rich parlor pieces with piano and strings. A vocal chorus of Gonzalez with Jaclyn Sanchez, Tatiana Ferrer and Nadia Washington mix and match through pieces like the relentless post bopping modal “Moving Forward” or the Old World Dance with Oriente Lopez’s flute on “Sencillez.” Traditional Latin voices by Pedrito Martinez mix with hand claps and Afro Cuban sounds provided by Yosvany Terry on an alluring “Iyesa Con Miel” while dashes of minor mooded hard bop a la Horace Silver emanate from Gonzalez’s fingers on the sensuous “Camello Tropical In New York” and the lurking “Linear Patterns in Havana.” Some rich bluesy moods snap with a funk on “Two Makes the Difference” with the leader’s wonderfully elegant and chimey piano creates sounds from another era with strings on the dreamy “Lovely Time With My Dear.” Exotic atmospheres and melodies mix to create a rich gumbo of flavors. Bravo!
