Noam Wiesenberg: Roads Diverge

Bassist Noam Wiesenberg leads a vintage sounding quintet along with Philip Dizack/tp, Shai Maestro/p-key, Immanuel Wildins/as-cl and Kush Abadey/dr. With Maestro’s keyboards, the team delivers soulful CTI sounds with Dizack’s horn on the hip-pulsed “Where Do We Go From Here” while his muted horn is smooth on “ Melody For Ido.” The leader’s bass is thoughtful and resonant on the tranquil “Prelude” and bows well on the melancholy “The Tourist,” lurking with foreboding ideas to Abadey’s military drums on “Roads Diverge” with Dayna Stephens adding his tenor to team well with Wilkins’ alto. The team shows it can dig a groove as Wilkins bears down on the post bopper “Resfeber” and is warm on the mellow “Shir Le Shir.” Strong and fresh.
