Juan Andres Ospina Big Band: Tramontana

Pianist and composer Juan Andres brings together an enthusiastic and international big band for a collection of his own compositions. Artists from Argentina, US, UK, Israel, Colombia, Greece, Canada and Switzerland contribute to create warm tones for Justin Flynn’s tenor on the soft title track, with muted brass and soft reeds forming a Gil Evans-inspired flower bed for the composer’s  piano and guest soprano saxer Paquito D’Rivera on “Todavia No.” The team shows some blues swagger as Marcelo Woloski’s percussion adds sizzle to “102 Farenheit” while sensuous vocals by Lucia Pulido” tam with Alex Terrier’s soprano sax for a seductive “Ver Llover.” The tones are impressionistic, but still able to swing with style and class. Alluring.
