****RINGER OF THE WEEK****HOLY COW!!! The Flying Horse Big Band: The Bat Swings!

Here is a great idea, and it’s done with the absolutely perfect attitude. Director Jeff Rupert takes on the role of Commissioner Gordon and brings together themes and motifs from the wonderfully kitschy and iconic 60s Batman TV show and makes the music swing like Bruce Wayne with Jill St. John. The band veers between Stan Kenton-esque brightness and Woody Herman swing on wild and wooley pieces such as “Batmobile to Airport” or the cruising “Bat-Spin.” Other times, the band gets Kool and the Gang funky as on “Spider-Man Theme” pulls out a samba, and can even go as nourish as Alfred in a reflective mood.  Some hi-jinx takes place on the Latinized Batman theme on “Murcielago En La Cueva” while closing with a glorious “Amazing Grace.” As sharp as fins on the Batmobile and as bouncy and sleek as Julie Newmar.
