Richard X Bennett gets pensive and personal as he plays 17 of his own composition with the spartan sounds of piano, melodica and “sound design” (more on that later). The concise pieces mix delicate sparkles and dashes as on “Transparent Frame” and “The Bass Remembers” with a combination of acoustic with electric, as synthetic musings of electronica add atmosphere on “Refracted Light” and “Stasis.” Bennett’s melodica brings a bit of bohemia into the picture, with warmth on “Sans Paroles 1” and “Away From the Many.” The overall mood is a hint of Brian Eno ambient tones with dashes of Debussy.
