This two disc set has guitarist Ramin Partovi teaming with drummer Simon Phillips and bassist Jimmy Johnson to mix and match with over 2 dozen guitarists and a couple of pianists. Six string stars such as Carl Verheyen, Oz Noy, Scott Henderson and Mike Stern all join in to show the various sounds from their collective axes.
While the comparison of guitar interpretations is interesting, the fact that Phillips keeps the drum pattern and cadence almost the exact same for 27 songs makes for a bit of repetition. The same intro is used almost every time, and after awhile a bit of ennui sets in with the laconic groove. A bit of change in color or groove would have gone a long way.
