Mike LeDonne and the Groover Quartet: From the Heart

Rivulets are dug deep with B3er Mike LeDonne and his quartet of Eric Alexander/ts, Peter Bernstein/g and either Joe Farnsworth/dr or Mike Clarke/dr. The mix of tenor sax and guitar with the Hammond is something designed in heaven, as it always fits like peanut butter and jelly for a perfect taste. Ex-Headhunter Clark brings a funky soul to the title track and the Memphis swampy “Here Comes the Doctor” that sounds like something fit for the Fabulous Flames. Alexander’s tenor sounds like dry rub beef ribs on the bluesy “Someday” and the smoke filled read of Ray Charles’ “Come Back  Baby.” Bernstein weaves around on the steady “Then Came You” and hustles through the ride cymbal on Stevie Wonder’s “Fun Day.” All the while LeDonne hums like Mario Andretti as he goes high octane throughout. Rib sticking blue plate special!
