Pianist Enoch Smith mixes vintage bop instrumentals with upbeat soulful vocal tracks on this optimistic album. The team of Smith with Gabriel Vivas/b, Reggie Quinerly/dr and Myron Walden/ts provide hip and bluesy tracks such as “To and Fro” and the gospel themed read of “Wade in the Water” while Antoine Drye’s trumpet preaches on “Freedmantown.” Things get even better with vocalist Estee Bullock, who has an earnest and Sunday Morning feel to his voice, using it to full capacity on the funky Memphis stew of “Drown” and the testifying “Love Callin’.” Hopeful messages abound, as Bullock oozes with optimism on “Take Me Home.” A smile producer!
