Guitarist Eduardo Mercuri has a #2 pencil thin tone to his strings, and uses it to create some intriguing moods and clever re-reads of standards with a core team of Hayden Farrar/b and Patrick Simard/dr. The team delivers a clippity clopping take of “Misty” while Simard’s brushes dust off a Brazilian “Someday My Prince Will Come.” The team bears down with guest tenor saxist Gustavo D’Amico on a muscular gallop of “Inner Urge” with the guitarists creating a dreamy mist foe “Someone to Watch Over Me.” Some ominous dark clouds are formed with effects on “O Trenzinho do Caipira” with rich woodwinds adding warm wall paper to “Francisca.” Lots of fresh ideas and deliveries.
