The quartet Violet Spin consists of Fabian Jaber/v, Martina Bischof/va, Irene Kepl/v and Andreas Semlitsch/v with Kepl supplying the modern sounding compositions. The songs range from longing Latin sensuality as on “Wind” to melancholic jazz broods during “Mulciber.” The team is able to get a bit frisky as well, bringing in vocal percussion for “face 2 face” and bowing like buzzing bees druing “Red & Blue” with some hissing and voices making you look for a fly swatter on “ Grau.” Dashes of Bartok are found on the herky jerky “Affection” and edgy “Chromalog 2a” showing a color palate that is quite wide. The melodies are thoughtful and collection of moods like wandering into various rooms in a modern art museum.
