The mix of guitar and harmonica could easily turn into a one dimensional treatise on the blues, so Howard Levy wisely uses the more flexible diatonic harps as he teams with guitarist Samo Salamon for this collection of originals. The moods are quite varied, ranging from a folksy “Devil’s Darling” ton a more abstract “Chaplin Walks” While Levy’s vibrato fills the room as Salamon provides breezy drapery on “ Sleep Burja.” The duo take a stroll or two down to the delta, as Levy wheezes through “Para Para” while a three part “Harmonica Suite” is an exquisite journey filled with sighs, gasps and frisky side roads, with Salamon knowing when to step aside or come up front for some picking and grinning. Swamps and stomps!
