Hilary Gardner & Ehud Asherie: The Late Set

Nothing gets as personal and intimate in jazz as piano & vocal duets, and this one with Hilary Gardner with Ehud Asherie is a beaut. Asherie has two relaxed and strong hands, and Gardner is confident and dynamic , able to get breathy on ”A Ship Without A Sail” or swaying on the lamp-lit “After You’ve Gone.” She oozes with reminiscence on “Seems Like Old Times” and is cozy and coy with the pianist on”I Sued to Be Color Blind.” The two use space like 19th Century French painters on a glowing “I Never Has Seen Snow” and are thoughtful and reflective during “Sweet and Low.” Excellent pax de deux.”
