Francois Bourassa Quartet: Number 9

Pianist Ferancois Bourassa brings together a team of Andre Leroux/wwinds, Guy Boisvert/b and Greg Ritchie/dr for a collection of his own compositions on this post-modern album. The moods are predominantly sepia toned, with Bosvert’s bass clarinet brooding with the leader’s eerie piano on “11 Beignes” and crying with histenor sax during the cataclysmic “Lostage.”  Bourassa displays a hint of Eric Satie on the reflective “Frozen” and is free and quirky on the loose “Carla Und Karlheinz” while forming edgy tinkles with Leroux’s tenor sax on the modern “5 and Less.” Music for Miss Habersham?
